1) Create a graphic (200 x 200 max size) to represent your personal "candy". It should have your username on it, but otherwise can feature whatever you want. Make it something special since it's self-representative.
2) Make a post with the subject "trick or treat?". Put your "candy" somewhere in it, and be sure to repost these instructions.
3) Then, go around other people's LJs and reply to them with either "trick" or "treat". If you reply with "trick", they will give you an LJ dare that you have to perform before taking their candy. If you're too wimpy for that, simply say "treat" and take their candy.
4) List all your collected candies in your original "trick or treat?" post to show off your collection, being sure not to direct-link!

Under normal circumstances, I am not one to rant or rave about the hate that surrounds our society. Nor am I one to type it up and put it in my livejournal. Yes, I am a very opinionated person, but it’s not my place to push my opinions upon others. I believe that you should come to your own conclusions. I’m not a political activist, I’m not a feminist, and though I am a believer and a supporter of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights (being a bisexual woman myself), I don’t normally take a stand. Before I continue, however, I will state that this is an opinion, one that I feel strongly about. Whether or not you wish to agree with me, or whether you wish to hatemonger or support me is largely unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Not that I don’t care of course, because I do. Freedom of speech is important. I just want to say this, and get it off of my chest.

This is in response to a livejournal post made by John C. Wright, science fiction and fantasy novelist. As well written as it may be, you, sir, are nothing more than an ignorant human being. I may not be a novelist, nor do I have my doctorate in law (I have a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology and working towards my Master’s in Criminal Justice), but I can see ignorance as well as you seem to think you can see the “moral decay of the land.” There are several points of interest that I wish to address regarding your post.

First off, in regards to homosexuality being natural, there have been several studies done that support a genetic and biological cause to homosexuality. One such study, done by the National Institute of Health, has shown that this link exists. Homosexuality is also found in several species of animals - wolves, penguins, and swans being several examples of such behavior. So before you comment on such a thing, sir, please, do your research so you don’t sound like an uneducated buffoon. To continue this point, homosexuality is not listed as a mental or psychological condition. If you researched properly, you would find that the American Psychological Association removed homosexuality from the DSM in 1973, and the World Health Organization removed it from the ICD-10 in 1990. It is no longer a recognized psychological condition. And had you worried about doing your research rather than stating that you have a doctorate in law, you would have known that.

Second of all, I do not tolerate hate of any kind. Whether it is racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, or the plethora of other forms of hate that exist in the world, I do not tolerate them. I think that it is abhorrent and vile, and it is a reason that hate crimes, prejudice, wars, and violence still exist. I could sit here and cite several cases in which views like yours have lead to violence and death, and yet, I have a feeling that you would not listen. If I mention the Matthew Shepard case, you will probably say that it is nothing more than a “Liberal leftist” agenda to use the case as a way for homosexuals to receive more rights.

As far as being emotional, damn right I am. When I hear of people attempting to squash the rights of anyone who has worked hard to keep them, I will be emotional. But, there are times that rationality and emotional attachment can go hand in hand. I have been able to give you a clear and concise argument, one that has been researched fully whilst being emotionally connected to the issue at hand. Whether you believe me to be a “sneerer” or not, you are welcome to that opinion. However, I have spent some time coming up with a rational argument, and whether you see it or not is not my problem.

And now, to the main issue at hand, which is Sci-Fi’s (and yes, I hold the same discontent over their new name as you do) push to diversify their programming. I think that it is about time that television shows throw off the Puritanical views put forth by those that have money and power, those who are not regular working Joes like I am (and when you work as a victim’s advocate in a police department in a city with a high rate of crime, then you can speak, Mr. Doctorate in Law) that this country has regarding sexuality and to reflect what society really is. The society is no longer one of repression, but one that allows diverse ideals to thrive and be shared. It’s sad that even Great Britain is more liberal regarding race, age, and homosexuality than the United States is.

Finally, homosexuality is not deviant, or anything like that, but a way of life. It is not going to “corrupt” our children. What will corrupt our children is this continued hatemongering and the ignorant views that are put forth by those to be “morally right.” Just because you go to church every week, or because you don’t support divorce or adultery does not make you morally right. I am a practicing Christian (more specifically, I am a former Catholic who left the church because I find their views hypocritical and morally ambiguous at times), who believes to follow the words of Christ, which is to love everyone. Also, he without sin shall cast the first stone. I am certainly not without sin, are you? When you are, then you can come speak to me regarding homosexuality and the moral decay that it is causing our society. Perhaps then I will be able to take your viewpoint seriously instead of seeing it as the viewpoint of a small-minded, ignorant man who is more afraid of change than he is of spouting off a rant (because that is what it became) that shows just how little he really is.

For those of you who took the time to read this, thank you very much for listening to me, whether you share my viewpoint or not.

Wow, it's been a while since I've last used this icon. So, um....yeah. Finals suck. So do snowstorms. Since my schedule has been forcibly upped, I'm moving out Friday morning instead of Saturday due to a huge snowstorm coming on Friday. So what does this mean? It means a brief hiatus from everything until Friday. I need to hunker down and get a stupid essay finished by Friday morning and it's fucking huge. On top of which, I have to make sure I'm all packed and ready to move out by the time my dad gets here after I drop off my essay. So, to everyone I'm threading with at the Box, sorry guys. Tags will be very, very sporadic until I get home. And I won't be online much. Sorry waifu, won't be talking much to anybody while I get all this finished. But, after Friday I am free, free, free! I am not happy right now. Really not happy. Actually, I would say that I am down right pissed ~~which is actually really hard to do with me. I'm usually a very happy-go-lucky person.~~

Okay. So I know I have to buy books, right? Everyone does ~~even though $104.37 is a little excessive for a used textbook.~~ I can live with that. Even with seven classes ~~although that's not entirely true because I don't have to buy books for two of my classes or my lab.~~ But, I just learned that I am going to have to lease software, lease and not buy, for $45. This is for CJ Data Analysis, which I really don't want to take in the first place but I have to because it's a fucking required course. On top of that, I need to buy a flashdrive, which, okay, isn't that big of a deal, but when I have to lease software when I'm currently poor because of book expenses, pisses me off. Now, I don't want to seem like I'm bitching ~~although I am, just a little~~, but seriously. I pay enough in fucking fees and tuition and other shit. I think this is software that the school should provide. It's bad enough that I'm going to be in debt for a good portion of my life when I get out of school ~~and I'm telling you that I'm not going to use half of the crap that they're teaching me~~, they have to make me be in debt while I'm at school? It's not like I get payed a lot through work study ~~I have yet to see a paycheck over $50 because they take 70% of it,~~ so I wanna know where the money is going to come from.

...I really fucking hate school at the moment. Okay, maybe not taking classes, but all the bullshit that comes with it.

So, everything I've been working on ~~including the sex_tour fic that I've had to rewrite because my comp crashed~~ is now on hold. At least until next week. My classes just started up and I'm taking seven with an eighth on the way and I'm trying to figure out how to get work in my hectic schedule...It's hell. Good news is, this is my last semester for my bachelor's degree. Bad news is, next semester I start on my master's degree ~~hence the mad scramble to get eight classes into my tight schedule.~~ I'm sorry to everyone ~~especially you Dual. I know I promised fic and have yet to deliver. I feel like such an ass.~~

...Shit. This sucks.

School Sucks

Okay...so life is good and bad at the same time.

The Good:

1) I have been recommended to apply to the master's program at my school for Criminal Justice because of my GPA and I don't have to take the GREs! My advisor thinks that I will do well in this and is even writing up one of my recommendations!
2) When I told my advisor about one the professors that I was going to get a recommendation letter from, I found out that I was one of the few people in her classes that got an A in all of her classes (I took three with her because she was just so awesome)!
3) I have been nominated to join Alpha Phi Sigma, the Criminal Justice National Honor society! My paperwork is in and everything, so I should be hearing about the induction ceremony soon!

The Bad:

1) I have seven classes to take to finish off my bachelor's degree. Normally, this would be a good thing, but I was originally told that after this semester, I would only have four. So, in order to graduate in May, I have to figure out how the hell I'm going to take seven classes, pay for them, and still work.
2) The actual application for graduate school. I now have a mission statement and a resume to write and I have no idea how I'm going to do it.
3) The essay I am currently working on. I am so fucking frustrated. I can't seem to think of how to write it! ARGH!
4) On top of all of this, I have three tests this week. Tuesday is Psych of Personality ~~the class pisses me off. Seriously~~, and Friday is Child and Adolescent Development ~~which I should ace, no problem~~ and Statistics in Criminal Justice I am so fucking scared about this test. It's all math and formulas, and I am horrible with them. I mean, part of the pull of Criminal Justice was the lack of fucking math and now I'm taking a class that is all fucking math. Who thinks up this shit? I mean when the hell am I ever going to use a damn formula determining whether or not someone's population proportion is right? I want to be a U.S. Marshal, not a fucking researcher.

So, yes...I feel like RL is kicking me in the ass right now. And I still have to finish my goddamn essay.

*sigh* I apologize to anyone who reads this bitchfest. I just needed to rant about it. And Dual, if you read this, I am so, so, so sorry about the 5927 fic I promised you! I know I said that I would have it done by this weekend but *points up* all of this happened this week and I just had no time to finish it! I will get it done (hopefully by Tuesday, maybe by tomorrow if I get this ~~stupid~~ paper done)! I really am very sorry!

Now I am off to finish my paper! I shall finish it and it will be good ~~at least I hope it will be~~.

So, I've been watching the Death Note dub on adultswim.com. Last week, wasn't so happy with it. This week, it was better. I figured out why I didn't like it last week, though. I really don't like Light's voice actor. I mean, he was great as Quatre in GW, but he really bugs me as Light. I just don't think the voice matches him. The rest of the cast I like so far. Ryuk was 10 times better this week too. But yeah. Still don't like Light's VA. I thought I was being an elitist snob last week because I didn't like the dub. That theory has been blown out of the water now. It's just Light. But, Light pisses me off anyway, so it's not much of a change.

On another note, Game 3 of the World Series is tonight! Go Red Sox!

*sigh* So I just finished my CJ stats homework. It's made me realize something. I really hate math. It makes me feel like an idiot. On top of that, when the hell am I going to use an arrangement problem? Do you know how goddamn complicated that is?! ARGH!! *headdesk*

Anyway, it has killed my brain ~~moreso than liquor ever could and it is far less pleasant~~. Now I'm going to watch the rest of game seven of the ALCS and hope to God that the Sox win.

I finally read chapter 169 of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. Now as some of you may or may not know, I am a Clamp whore. I also seem to have this aversion to angst unless it is Clamp. So over the last, i don't know 30 chapters of TRC I have been going crazy! First Syaoron, then Fai, the Kurogane! It was like, ARGH! Now this chapter made me very happy, cause they toned back on the angst. But, now I am wary of what's gonna happen next. I mean, Clamp just doesn't tone back on the angst. They usually make more (X/1999 is a good example, although they still haven't finished it, ARGH!). Now, it's like, "oh fuck! what the hell is going to happen now!?"

Okay, so Clamp makes me incoherent. None of what's up there makes any sense. But, what I'm getting to is this: if they end up killing off anyone and it's not Fei Wang Reed, I'll be pissed. I can deal with the eye gouging, the limb cutting, the angst, but I'm not going to be able to deal with the death of one of the characters. So...yeah...now I'm going to go and study for my midterms. And not think about TRC. Yeah.

Okay, so update on the game! Red Sox won it 10-3! At first, I was nervous cause Travis Hafner hit a solo home run off of Beckett in the first inning. But then the Red Sox offense got their game on and scored a ton of hits. David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez got on base each of the ten times they were at bat. But oh my god. The Sox put Gagne in as closer during the ninth inning. I was so nervous. I mean, the guy has been performing terribly (like losing games with huge leads and so on) and they put him in. I understand why. They need to keep Okajima and Papelbon fresh for the rest of the series, but still. Gagne very nearly walked a guy home. That would have sucked. But it didn't happen so yay! Tomorrow night is game 2! Schilling (my fave pitcher) will be taking the mound so I hope that he does well. Good night everyone! And, if you're a Red Sox fan (or not too!) pray that they keep this streak up!

Just a quick little update. The Red Sox won game 1 of the ALDS!! Beckett pitched a complete game and it was a shut out! The final score was 4-0! I love being from Boston and I love being a Red Sox fan!

Oh my freaking God!!! I did my presentation today (yes the one I have been bitching about over the past couple of weeks) and it went so much better than I thought it would! After all the drama (not getting everyone's powerpoint until 9:00 PM last night, people not showing up to meeting, fighting with group members over e-mail), we did really well! And we already got our grade back! We got an A! A freaking 94! This is worth 25% of our grade, so this is just the best news I've had all day!

On another note, I have the freaking Jar of Dirt remix in my head. For those of you who don't know check this out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRcj6CAhe7s. It is addicting, repetitive, and hilarious. And it's stuck in my head. Not that it's a bad thing. It just is.
